ENG_ You listen and listen music. Everyday you pass from one band to another, until suddenly, you stumble with […]

Gianluca

There is something about being Chilean that gets me very deeply, and it’s not all that cheesy reasons we hear on vague commercials and cheesy TV news. It’s humility and honesty. And that’s what we get to hear on Gianluca’s music. Especially with trap music, associated with luxury, sex, money wasting and violence. Everything what Gianluca it’s not. And that’s why this kind trap is so Chilean. We can admire and look up all of these thing I have mentioned before, but we, as Chilean millennials , can’t relate to their themes so closely. Sad boys talking about wine and melon, growing up in San Miguel and being poor but happy. This new generation of musicians are taking the fresh part of urban music and mixing it with their reality. No strings attached, no posing and no drama in making what they like. That’s what we love from Gianluca. That’s what we admire from Gianluca. That’s what we talk about Gianluce. So, c’mon all you sad boys out there. Get you daily experiences out there and shove it in the world’s face. Go and make your own videos, transform your own childhood experiences and share your own music. Your time […]

J//OAKYN

On a summer day, you are sitting on the park waiting the minutes to pass, for the shadow to come and lay down your skate without bigger concerns. You lit a cigarrete and watch on the horizon some rappers. It’s logical…you know what they will do. Beyond there a group of students drinking some beers are evading legality. The homeless is dragging his midday collection. A dog comes to you and you think: “I have nothing to offer but a cigarette and my company. The dog stays. The buses, the people, your friends, the pilsen and one or another joint to liven up the afternoon. The street, your ecosystem. J//OAKYN portrays his beats on daily figures from the street life. We are talking of such daily portrays, like kicking the ground on your skate, talking about nothing with your friends or run to evade the “pacos”. Even though your mental and daily images connect with thing we are all capable to see, is in the abstraction of this young man from Concepción, that gives some maximized value, sounding nostalgic and so dense. Los Bárbara Blade

Barbara Blade was a character in a terrible commercial deodorant. Something like a Lara Croft shaving her armpits with a knife. So, when you hear the name of the band you understand from the beginning that the thing is not going to go down a very traditional way. Then you start to listen to them and you do not know if you do not understand anything or start to understand the name a little more. You feel as if you’ve gotten a handful of beats and put them in a mixer to the max. With you inside. And with some or another pill, probably not Vitamin C, as they named one of their songs. Electronic, tribal rhythms, cumbia, ragamuffin, anyway, no matter how you listen to them in your house, you are going to want to be in a disc drowned in a sea of bodies that shake, giving life. It’s difficult to cross the line of popular today. And it’s more difficult to go several more lines. But it is the only way to achieve a result as strange as unique. Exportable, importable, renewable and dance on the table. Bravo LBB, now I understand the world less but who […]

Abismo

Alternative Hip Hop from Valparaiso, how cool that sounds? Is Abismo, slicing his rhymes with no mercy. An interesting approach to a genre ready to take the next step. Making a stand where the streets and innovation can peaceful collide. Sorry, did I say peaceful? In this dimension maybe, cause Abismo’s rap is clearly coming from another parallel reality. Rap so intricate as the streets and hills that watch him born. In a collaboration between beatmakers like Fkrpr and Gumo, (that we are glad that happened), Abismo present us a collage of influences so mixed up that is hard to tell which one is there. Taking the underground to a dark parking lot, beat him the hell up of it and then sending it home with the best impression of that night. Valpo Estado Mental is his first album and we have only but good vibes to what comes next. And as anyone who has been on Valparaiso and has met its people, you know that is only a question of time when something notorious born from the port city. Maleza

Deconstrucción, Maleza’s first EP, is a ritual. Ayahuasca that’s not only seeking to look into the outside, but also into the inside of us, trying to connect us with the purity, with the earth, with the blood. Their psychedelic sounds, combined with alt rock and folk, stirring our head to mix all those preconceived ideas, because in order to see the truth surrounding us, we must have a clear mind, free of them. Rythms that lead us from one side to another, holding us. Beginning  a trance where the music bends with ambient sounds, where we are, nowhere. And lyrics entering in that space, already free and available to be contemplated, with texts trying to open our eyes like the “Puede Ser” ¿Cómo es qué, miles de años pueden confluir, /¿How is that, thousands of years can confluence, En esto que nadie volvería a vivir? / in this that no one would live again? Un grillete para controlar / A shackle to control Un grillete que puedes comprar / A shackle to buy Un grillete hecho para ti / A shackle made for you  Un grillete los/nos hará feliz. / A shackle will make you/us happy. And between that song, mini melodic and experimental tunes […]

Siempre llueve al atardecer

The songs of “Siempre llueve al atardecer” are like a forest: you do not know where it start, where it end or where you are at that moment. Its instruments create an atmosphere in which it is difficult to concentrate on something specific, and you can only enjoy it as a whole. A place as abstract as special. You get carried away by your changes of rhythm, by those voices that appear and disappear in the thick of the melodies, by those loud guitars that sometimes find calm, but immediately they break it again, by those bursts of battery that wrap your ears, that vertigo that grabs you from the inside and pushes you into the unknown. The first thing you feel when listening the first EP, with the same name as the band, is the 17:44 minutes are made short. Their first three songs accelerate you, make you run through that forest in search of a place to stay, without letting you stop. And then comes the fourth theme, “Siempre llueve al atardecer”, and then you just stop there. Because it feels too good. That forest that was unknown, transforms into familiar and becomes the one you want to […]
