Kingdom Fields

A terrain that apeared on the map of Osorno in 2010. A land created an deformed from the roftop of one of his members. Tower used for refuge, inspiration and creations of the group. 6 years doesn’t look like a long path, but building an empire is not a short or simple task. They have tried several aproachs to the public these years, but in 2016 is when they achieve with BYM Records their first album, “REEL”, giving us 6 tracks, 6 differents pieces of land to wander. One of them is named Newcombe, surname of the founder of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, band that they confessed idolize.  They have traveled through several realms, not without waving their flag. They release their record in the Cine Arte Alameda of Santiago; have performed in Valdivia; also in the legen (wait for it…) dary Casa de Salud in Concepción; and of course, Osorno.  Kingdom Fields is a green musical land that you must go over. Föllakzoid

Föllakzoid is one of the few Chilean Krautrock bands. They are Domingo Garcia-Huidobro on guitar, Diego Lorca on drums, Juan Pablo Rodríguez on the bass, and Alfredo Thiermann on keyboards. Past members include Francisco Zenteno on guitar, Gonzalo Laguna as a lead singer, and Ives Sepulveda on keyboards and shakers. Föllakzoid have been playing a lot with fellow local bands like Guiso, Perrosky, The Ganjas and others from BYM Records. One time they collaborated with Lee Ranaldo from Sonic Youth when he visited Chile. Their eponymous first record, produced by Ignacio Rodríguez and released in 2009 on BYM Records, is only 6 tracks and sounds like classic Krautrock plus acid guitar and keyboard loopy melodies. Its trance-like formula makes it feel like a journey. Some songs are really long and spacious while others maintain classic rock single structure.  WebSite: www.follakzoid.com Rcord Label: BYM RECORDS (CL) SACRED BONES RECORDS (NY)

TOMATES ROCKY

By chance… that’s how Tomates Rocky was born. In 2007, two of the band members:  frontman, Nicolas Bowen (aka Proliante), and drummer, Anibal Robles (aka Senor Rupe), were asked to play a jam session at a friend’s birthday party. Using only a classic Casio home keyboard and a simple drum, the stage was set to seriously begin making music. For both of them, it was like finding water in the middle of a desert, which created more thirst to make new and original music – different from anything that had come before it – and the seeds of the tomatoes began to germinate. Catchy melodies, a mixture of elements familiar to anyone who grew up in the 80’s… like sounds taken from Atari and Nintendo, music from Spanish TV, such as “Martes 13” and “Sabado Gigante” and a small dose of Orlando Urbina, who played keyboards on weekend evenings in the supermarket in downtown Santiago, Chile, in the 90’s, when Santiago still had a small town feel. From all of these influences came the idea of “Supermarket Psychedelia,” a term that denotes fresh ideas, crisp rhythms and savory sounds. Tomates Rocky cooks up this produce with a dash of humor, […]

NUEVA COSTA

Nueva Costa emerges like one of the most indefinable bands from BYM Records, close to the late German kraut psychedelia of the 70’s (Harmonia), the nebulous but sharp electronic music from the 80’s showed by Gary Numan and the Chilean psych-folk roots founded on Los Jaivas and Inti Illimani. This album talks about the local chilean culture but looked through the glass of the last 40 years in the popular world music. The Lo-fi aesthetic can be heard from the first seconds of the record, and would go over the rest of the songs. Nueva Costa found a place that is very uncommon between pop or rock musicians on the globalized world, that is, mixing up native music (if there’s such a thing in the western culture) with the mainstream of the past decades. But it is not popular music in the strictly sense of the term, is the reference of each decade (psych of the 70’s, new wave from the 80’s and lo-fi from the 00’s) adding some of their own musical history forged on the third world, with a dictator on the recent past and the far memories from a very hard-to-find land, with delayed news and delayed […]

Chicos de Nazca

CHICOS DE NAZCA are yet another psychedelic product Santiago’s underground movement, formed in 2010 by guitarist and vocalist Francisco Cabala to run alongside his full time band La Hell Gang. As part of Chile’s prolific BYM Records collective, Chicos De Nazca benefit from a fluid line-up of musicians who appear across the band’s different albums: Igancio Rodriguez (The Holydrug Couple), Juan Pablo Rodriguez (Föllakzoid), Martin Avendaño and Carlos Cabala have all been part of the Chicos clan at various points. The ban appear at the festival as part of the Sacred Bones v BYM collaboration. Chicos De Nazca have released three official albums (on BYM Records and Hozac Records) and two unofficial ones, utilising tape recording, analog effects and endless layers of guitars to build their atmospherics sounds. The group’s characteristic gentle and psychedelic repertoire – in which the rhythm and keyboards are essential to keep the songs afloat – owes a bedt to the generation of rock bands that sprung from the post-acid house fever of 1988 in Chicago and England. A soundtrack for a trip to a place of dreams. Record Label: BYM Records Website chicosdenazca.bandcamp.com
